#7 blog about technology

Hmmmm a blog entry about technology, I think I'll steer away from PC related topics for this one, and focus on the Nintendo Wii game called "Wii Fit" (http://games.nintendo.com.au/title.php?id=1691).
This game is similar to "Wii sports" (which came free with the console), but instead of just using the wiimote like a tennis racquet or a golf club, a special balance board is included with the game. The balance board is basically a motion sensative pressure pad that senses the pressure of your hands or feet, helping to determine physical condition by gauging your centre of gravity and BMI (Body Mass Index).
The balance board allows the game to have over 40 activities. They belong to four separate categories: balance games, yoga, muscle workouts and aerobic exercises, and include things like ski jump, tightrope walk, torso twists, push-ups, rhythm boxing, advanced step and super hula hoop, to name just a few.
You can create up to 8 family profiles in the game, and once you begin the exercise program it will asses your fitness level and estimate your Wii fit age. The game tracks your progress with a graph, so you can see how well (or badly) you and your family members are doing.
This game has been designed to target people like me who tend to stay home and play games instead of having an active lifestyle. It encourages us to get fit by doing something we love in the comfort of our own homes, while being as relaxed or competative as we desire. I am really looking forward to this being released (8 May 2008), hopefully technology will have finally provided me with an enjoyable way of getting and staying fit.

#6 More Flickr Fun

Wow, so may different mashups to play with on http://bighugelabs.com/flickr/ . It was hard for me to choose just one , so I tried the movie poster, magazine cover, jigsaw, warholiser and lolcat generator, but since I'm a trading card geek (magic the gathering and warcraft) I had to settle on that mashup.
One of my pet birds gave me the inspiration for this one, because he likes to ride around on my shoulder and has a habit of biting Tom if he gets too close :D.
I could spend hours playing with these applications (and I probably will). It was a lot of fun creating personalised pics like these, the possibilities are endless, especially if you combine them with things like prints on mugs, or transfer paper to put them on t-shirts or pillowcases. It has certainly inspired my imagination.
It was nice to find out that I could link anything I created on the "big huge labs" site to my flicker account, as I might go a little crazy trying everything out (yay , it helps save space on my computer). Though i will have to look into the security a little more before I use more of my personal pics in conjunction with 'big huge labs".

#5 Discover Flickr

Uploading pictures onto the internet was another first for me. I was a little worried about security if I decided to put personal pictures online, but was relieved to find that i could choose who can see my photographs. Being able to select just myself, friends, family or anyone who wanted to see made me a lot more confident.
That being said, I created my own Flickr account and uploaded pictures of my pet cockatiels. The way you organize photographs (sets and collections) makes it so easy to find the images you need (both other users and my own).
I think I'll continue to use Flickr after the training, it will help me to keep in touch with my family. Below are links to two of the pictures I posted on Flickr, enjoy :)

#4 Register your Blog

This is my first post, it was a lot easier than I thought to create a blog. I think I'm more excited about decorating the background and making it my own space than actually writing in it at the moment :D
