#9 Finding Feeds

Well, I had a look at 3 of the search tools for finding blogs that you can subscribe to, and had a bit of trouble with two of them. The link for Feedster (http://www.feedster.com/) seems to be broken, and I tried topix.net (http://www.topix.net/), but none of the eight blogs I tried subscribing to had a working rss feed link.

Then I tried Google Blog Search (http://www.google.com.au/blogsearch?hl=en). I tried subscribing to several blogs, but the ones I found interesting didnt work. Jason was my saviour at this point, he showed me that I could find the rss feed by pasting the sites url into the add section in my bloglines account. Finally I had success subscribing to a blog.

I have linked two of the blogs I found interesting. The first is a blog that does weekly podcasts on anime news http://www.theotaku.com/, and the second reviews newly released fantasy books http://fantasybookcritic.blogspot.com.

#8 Make life "really simple" with RSS & a newsreader

Well, before this part of the training i didn't even know that Really Simple Syndication feeds existed. A good idea to dodge all those annoying advertisements on regular sites, but to be honest I found few feeds that I actually wanted to subscribe to.

I didn't enjoy this exercise that much. I found the Bloglines site difficult to navigate, and got frustrated with the whole thing. The exercise description got me confused about whether I was supposed to create a second blog on the bloglines site and link my first to it, or the other way around. Not to mention the screenshots of which tabs to click....still can't find that rotten share tab. In the end I just subscribed to the required 10 RSS feeds, and played around with my first blog until I figured out how to link the feeds to it.

I ended up linking 3 of the feeds to my blog, and have left a link to my bloglines account ( http://www.bloglines.com/blog/arwenfallstar) to show I did create one.
